1.) The article to my blog response is http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/31/us/ohio-transgender-teen-suicide/ . It has been submitted by CNN and other news stations, so it is unbiased and provides insight to the situation of the transgender teen Leelah Alcorn.
2.) In the article about Leelah Alcorn, written and broadcasted by CNN, the Boston Globe and other news stations, Leelah Alcorn was a transgender girl ( someone who is born as a male, but recognizes as a female. ) who's family hadn't accepted her for who she was. Alcorn had tried to express to her feelings to her family, starting to use female gender pronouns, and discarding her birth name Josh to adopt Leelah, which thought had suited her more due to her situation. In her suicide note, Alcorn says that her death needs to mean something, so people don't need to live in fear of who they are.
3.) The article about Leelah Alcorn and the book "Night" are connected through death. In Night, Germans kill the Jewish because they don't support what they believe, or the lifestyle that they upkeep. This is similar to all gay and transgender teens, as some die due to themselves and others for not supporting who they are and what they believe. Leelah wants her death to bring aid to the community, while the Jewish deaths bring attention to their community so that people know how to avoid situations like the Holocaust again. We are living in the time of a subtle Holocaust though, because nobody feels like they belong.

My article talks about the motivation behind Isis and a few reasons they are doing what they at me doing. I found this interesting because their motivations are very similar to the German motivations when they started a mass killing of the jews. My article can be connected to our novel "Night" through the thought process and motivations of the Germans and Isis. Hatred is not the only reason they are killing. They are from the insecurity of their religion. They motivation is to degrade and destroy

Kayla was an aid worker in many countries such as India and Palestine, and was captured on August 4th in 2013. Kayla's parents think it's best to negotiate her release, because an assault rescue mission would greater risk her life.
3. In 'Night', the prisoners of concentration camps during World War 2 didn't risk anything by trying to escape or assault the Germans. They knew their lives would be in more danger if they tried to leave than if they stayed and followed the rules, waiting until the war was over. Kayla's parents are thinking the same way as Elie and the rest of the prisoners in 'Night' did. They believe that attacking Kayla's captors would put her life in even greater danger than if they followed their rules and negotiated her release.

My article, http://m.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-31169312, is about the discovery if sixty abandoned bodies in a crematorium in Acapulco, Mexico. Responding to a complaint about a strange smell, police found sixty dead men, women, and children in the building. The crematorium apparently had apparently shut down the year before, and the bodies were already embalmed, just not cremated. It is unknown how long the bodies have been in the crematorium, and some families have requested to have their received ashes analyzed. This article is similar to "Night", because both illustrate disrespect to the dead. The Holocaust caused thousands of Jews to perish without burial, or ceremony of any kind, just as the sixty people found in Mexico. Even the element of lies plays a role here, as family members have not received the ashes of their loved ones, just like the Jews, who never get to know what happens to many of their family members. They are also shielded from the injustice and cruelty until they experience it, while Mexican families are kept in the dark about where the family members are.

2. In the New York Times article, Surviving Ebola but Untouchable Back Home, Jattu Lahai returns home after surviving Ebola, and is greeted by no one. She is abandoned and doesn't get help when it's needed. Home is worse than any other place for her and her daughter, it's hard being there when they feel ignored and abandoned.
3. In Night, Elie's father is abandoned when he is beaten by the Gypsy after asking if he could use the bathroom. He became abandoned when bystanders stood around including Elie, and didn't do anything because they knew what would happen if they risked their lives like that.

2. A man who entered a mall in Pittsburg had shot 3 people. All of the victims were shopping when he had killed them (from out of nowhere) 2 of the victims seemed to be random, while one of them was supposedly a target. There are victim accounts stating that they were in Dick's sporting goods when people started running from sounds of gunfire. It seems like the gunfights from the 90s had returned to the mall once again.
3. In the book Night, random Jews are attacked for being too slow or just randomly/for no purpose. This shows that both the article and the book are remarkably similar in the fact of them being random and not as targeted for their random outbreaks.

1.) In this video from CNN, young children in the Middle-East are being shown ISIS propaganda videos and joyfully reciting passages about slaughtering Americans and "infidels". ISIS controls these children's childhoods and what they're taught in school. From a young age they are shown clips of executions and mass murders, which ISIS uses to drive home the message that these acts are not only morally correct, but honorable and expected. They're brainwashed into believing we are their sworn enemies. ISIS has even gone so far as to set up an organization structured much like the Boy Scouts that allows then to recruit the young and encourage violence towards Americans. A psychologist in the video explains that ISIS targets these kids in order to instill this hate and fear while they are still young and don't think entirely for themselves, setting up a stream of fresh new recruits for years to come.

2.) In the novel -Night- Elie and his Jewish comrades are tortured and slaughtered by the Germans who see them as inferior and hate them. But why did the Germans hate these innocent people? They were raised that way and manipulated by the government. Hitler and his Nazis, just like ISIS, controlled their children's education and encouraged dissent towards the groups they were targeting. The Nazis also had their own children's organization much like ISIS's: The Hitler Youth. Both groups bombarded the kids under their control with propaganda and messages that demonstrated violence and promoted their main goal. These two articles and events share a disturbing overarching theme: Children are excellent sources for an army because they are vulnerable and easily manipulated by whatever is encouraged around them.

2. On January 3, 2015 the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (commonly known as ISIS) uploaded a video onto the internet of a Jordanian pilot being burned to death in a cage. The pilot was a 27 year old Lieutenant named Moath al-Kasasbeh who had been fighting in airstrikes against ISIS. His plane had crashed and he had been able to escape in time, but ISIS men caught him and held him captive; they tried to make an exchange with Jordan to get their two prisoners back, for the return of the pilot. ISIS killed Moath al-Kasasbeh and in return, Jordanians executed their two prisoners. The father of the pilot wants to avenge his son's death, which could result in a war between Jordan and ISIS.
3. In "Night" Jewish people were targeted and murdered in completely inhumane ways. They were killed for no reason besides the fact that the Nazis were ordered to kill the Jews whether they work to death, die naturally, starve, or are shot. This is similar to the ISIS attacks including the death of the 27 year old pilot because ISIS are targeting anyone who tries to stop them with their plan to take over Islamic countries. They keep the victims as prisoners, and record their gruesome deaths to upload and post for people of the world to see. This recent event relates back to "Night" because of the fact that individuals are targeted, murdered by inhumane tactics, and they both cause a threat to both the people around them and the world.

2) In -Night-, Elie and his family are deported from there home. Elie, along with the rest of the community, are moved from one ghetto to another. This relates to the articles because in the articles, many immigrants, some legal, most illegal, are being deported back to their home countries. The website has multiple articles about immigrants being deported. One that stands out to me is the most recent one on January 19. Cubans who were convicted in the US are being deported back to Cuba. This relates to -Night- because the Jews were convicted and removed from their homes, but not because of a crime, but because they were Jewish. Both of these events have a common theme. Change. Deportation is the change of where a person is living. The Jews and Cubans are changing where they are/were living.

It is innocent 26-year-old Peter Kassig simply over in the Middle East to help aid wounded civilians there. While undergoing this very touching and meaningful help he was captured by ISIS and beheaded. What did he do wrong? Nothing: he was simply a former soldier in the army seeking atonement. He felt a little guilty going out there and killing some completely innocent civilians, so he was trying to make up for that by taking care of the wounded. Since he was an American out there in ISIS territory, ISIS found him and killed him. This act prompted Obama to step in and say something (unsurprisingly). He said, "the beheading was an act of pure evil."
That is where this connects to Night. The Jews were punished and killed because of Hitler and his fascist rule acting against the minorities. It was only because of Hitler and his sickening "Final Solution" that all the Jews had to go through these terrible times. The majority of which, like Elie and his father, had never done anything remotely wrong, and yet now they were at the receiving end of the SS and their affliction towards the Jews. the apathetic killing of all these innocent Jews lines up with Peter Kassig being eliminated for no morally right reason.

2.)In the article "Why Ferguson Touched a Raw, National Nerve", Ray Sanchez explains how protesters are using the death of Trayvon Martin in the Ferguson and Michael Brown(murdered for whistling a white woman) as evidence the government in the United State is still racist toward darker skinned races. According to the citizens of the U.S., many of us believe that in fact, the police do treat darker skinned races less fairly. The Ferguson has been spread worldwide by new stations and social media, making it very clear to everyone about the issues that are occurring due to racism. Due the widespread of information, people can see the evidence and make their decision on whether the government is being racist, or if it was just a coincidence.

3.)The article "Why Ferguson Touched a Raw, National Nerve" and "Night" similar in both obvious and in hidden ways. "Night" is about Elie's participation in the holocaust. Both of these articles deal with racism between two races, the murder of a certain race, and a resistance or protest. What is unable to be easily seen is they both
are on a worldwide scale, racism is an issue that needs to be fixed as a whole world. Racism is like a world war, but it is always forgotten.

2.) Boko Haram is an Islamic extremist militant group found in Niger, Chad, and other parts of Africa. Their main goal is to eliminate all western culture and influence, and to overthrow the government kept there. This article has accounts on which Boko Haram members have bombed an innocent town. This has hundreds of civilians cheering on the military as they combat Boko Haram.
3.)Connection: This is connected through the deaths of innocent people who cannot help where they are, like in Night,where the Jewish population was kept in camps for just being in Germany. In Boko Haram's case, they have kidnapped over 300 girls just for going to school, and have killed many more for trying to defend them.

1.) Russian rebels are trying to invade the territories in Ukraine. In September 5, 2014 it was said that both the rebels and Ukrainians would settle on a ceasefire to help form a peace treaty. However, during this "ceasefire" both the rebels and Ukrainians have been building up their arms and weapons to prepare for further conflicts. After conflicts on what should be put into the peace treaty, the rebels captured the airport in Donetsk, and are making their way further into Ukraine. During the conflict approximately 5,000 civilians were killed and another 10,000 injured in Ukraine along with the evacuation of 900,000 civilians due to the incoming warfront.

2.) In Night, civilians were often put into harms way due to the war and their government. In Ukraine, many civilians have had to move from their homes into safer parts of the country. Though Elie and his family were not being deported to somewhere safe, they still had to go through the experience of leaving their homes and possessions due to the incoming warfront. The Ukraine civilians are probably experiencing the same sort of panic and confusion as Elie's family had when they were moved against their own will to another location (the ghettos). The Ukraine families have also heard rumors such as ceasefire like in September 5, 2014 like Elie's family had about the Russians overpowering the Germans. This could result in some false hope, and make the Ukrainians believe the conflict will not reach them like Elie had. This only adds to the disbelief and confusion when the Ukrainians had to evacuate their homes.

2. A war has been happening in Ukraine for around 7 months. The Ukrainians have been living in situations with the temperature going below freezing, with no electricity to help themselves. Rebels had captured Ukraine troops while they were in their safe houses. Some civilians had decided to stay in the city instead leave to Slovyansk. For the civilians who did decide to leave, at the train stations where they would leave, there was plenty of food, and psychologists to help them. On the trains there were 45 evacuees and fold up beds for them to rest on.

3. The connection to "Night" is that the Ukrainians went through the same treatment as the Jews did. All of the civilians who had stayed behind had to go fill up their water themselves and were desperate for food, only getting a loaf of bread. In "Night" when they were in the last ghetto before going to the camp, to get food and water you had to do it in the middle of the night or you wouldn't get much.
The troops were taking refugees, but many refused to go with them, this is like when Elie's family could have gone with their old servant but refused to be separated.
Then, the rebels had caught the troops in their safe houses, just like the Nazis went into the Jews houses and captured them taking them later on to ghettos.

(1) This article focuses on the topic of modern police brutality. In May of 2013, a young man, Najee Rivera, was charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, and filing false reports against police officers. But, after discovering new and incriminating evidence within the past week, all of the charges against Rivera were dropped. A surveillance tape captured a video of the beating, but it was not the officers who were brutalized as they claimed they had been; it was Najee Rivera. The Philadelphia officers abused and beat up Rivera, using both their fists and batons as weapons. Following the beating, Rivera suffered from orbital bone fractures and lacerations on the head, as well as emotional trauma.

(2) Within Night, and the Holocaust in general, innocent civilians trusted that their government officials were making decisions that were in their best interest. Prior to the horrific events of the Holocaust, the Jews and Germans alike believed that because Hitler held power and authority, he could be trusted. This was found to be untrue after Hitler used his power to manipulate thousands of Germans into exterminating faultless Jews. Similarly, as Americans we often trust our government and rely on them for safety/security. Police officers are just some of many people who we rely on for protection. These men are supposed to guide us in the right direction and keep us out of harm's way. But, sometimes these individuals use their power to do despicable things, such as abusing citizens, like Najee Rivera. The article on Rivera's experience and Night share many similarities, a key one being that innocent citizens trust figures of authority to help them, but these "dependable" sources turn their backs on them & use their power for evil. In other words, the people who are supposed to help civilians turn out to be their worst nightmare(s).

1) In this article from the LA Times , it talks about why some people who have no connection to the killings of the African american people join the protests. They call it a "fear campaign".This is because the people become panicked when they hear the news of increased security by the government. Some people are also joining the campaign in fear of what the protesters will do if they do not join the campaign because of their violent ways of protests that are causing the government to call backup security.
2) Night and this article are similar because in both, fear is a large part of the decisions made. In Night, fear caused Elie to do nothing to stop Idek from beating on his father. Elie was in fear of what would happen to him if he interfered with the punishment. The citizens who had no connection to the loss of the African american lives, mentioned in the article, have a very similar reason for the decisions to join the campaign. They are in fear of what the protesters will do to them if they do not join them in the protests.Fear is also causing the government to call for the National guard to assist the police in security. They are fearful that people will go through with the threats against the government and law enforcement.

2. Isis, a terrorist group, beheaded a former soldier by the name of Peter Kassig. He was captured in Syria where he was doing aid work. Isis beheaded him and posted the video online for the world to see. The video was called "an act of pure evil" by Obama. It is so despicable because Isis doesn't value human life in the slightest and they are killing people for ridiculous reasons just to try and get their way in a world that will not accept what they want.
3. The connection to Night is the overall sense of killing people for no humane reason because there is no reason to kill someone. Yes the holocaust involved millions of people and this is just one incident with one single person but Isis has also killed many other people to try and get their way. It is an injustice what Isis is doing and is relates to the holocaust in the sense that people are being killed to try and further the cause of certain people. It is pointless and shouldn't be allowed to continue and it is trying to be stopped just like the holocaust was ended for the same reasons.

Jordan held two terrorists captive,so ISIS said that they'd return the Kasasbeh if Jordan returned Sajida al-Rishawi, Jordan's prisoner, by that Thursday. That did not happen, so Kasasbeh was murdered by ISIS on video.

Kasasbeh was beaten and tortured before he was murdered. Many of the Jews, like Elie, were also beaten and tortured by the officials. When Elie was beaten, he was just in the way, there was no reason for him to be beaten, he didn't do anything wrong. Kasasbeh also didn't do anything wrong, he was just doing his job, but he was forced to escape his plane at the wrong place.

2. In this article, Brian Williams, the NBC News lead anchor, is found spouting false facts about his account in Iraq, and soon after that, he apologized for it.

3. It is a scientific phenomena that memories can be altered over time causing misconceptions. According to National Geographic, http://phenomena.nationalgeographic.com/2013/05/20/when-memories-are-remembered-they-can-be-rewritten/, “every time we bring back an old memory, we run the risk of changing it.” When Brian Williams recalled an event from twelve years ago, he ran the risk of changing that memory. This change of memory was evident in the fact that what he told was not true according to other compared facts of the event in Iraq. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, the preface states that Elie tried “to describe what had happened to him and over six million other Jews.” As Elie writes about his experience from many years ago, his views on some events may have been altered just like how Brian William’s memories had. This shows that when reading or hearing about recalled events, we should not put our absolute faith into them.

Summary: On Febuary 8th, 2015, Baghdad was bombed 3 times by a suicide bomber. The first bomb was set off in a restaurant filled with mostly young people, children and women. Killing about 22 people. The next bomb was set off in Baghdad's Shorja market, killing at least 11 people. Then about 25 yards apart, another bomb went off killing about 4 people. These bombs went off just before they were about to raise their ban on their midnight - 5:00 am curfew. They were finally beginning to feel safe and felt like they could remove the curfew and continue to be safe.

Connection: In Night, Elie and the Jews living in his town felt safe from the Germans. They believed that they would never see them in their town. But then the Germans were suddenly coming into town and putting them into ghettos, taking away their rights and bring them to death camps. Like the Jews, the people in Baghdad were feeling safe and thought they would still be safe if they lifted their ban. Then, right as they were about to make it official, they were bombed. The Germans hit the Jews, just like the bomb hit the people of Baghdad. Although both knew the threat of danger existed, they both felt as though they were safe from it.

In Ferguson, Missouri, a black teenager named Michael Brown was shot while unarmed by officer Darren Wilson. Protest from the dominantly black demographic of Ferguson erupted because Wilson was found not guilty of the crime that many supposed he did commit. Many controversies over the matter arose, and were at large until very recently. One such controversy was whether or not Wilson shot Brown because of his race, and not because he 'charged at Wilson' or 'didn't raise his arms.'

This situation is very similar to the holocaust in the aspect of racism. Many people in Ferguson believed that Wilson had shot Mr. Brown due to the color of his skin, whether it be because he felt threatened by Brown or he wasn't too fond of people with the color of skin that Mr. Brown had. Either way, Wilson shot Brown because of what seemed to be his skin color, which is similar to the process that the holocaust took, which is explained in 'NIGHT' by Elie Wiesel; Jews were shamed, and later injured and killed simply because they were Jews. While working for the Nazis in concentration camps, Elie and his father were beaten, usually due to the non-fulfilling of the Nazis' working expectations from the Jews, but also greatly contributed to by the Nazis' hatred towards Jewish people. 2. This article talks about member of the white supremacy group the KKK shot and killed 3 people outside a Jewish community. Then it goes on to say that the KKK stands as a modern example of religious intolerance. Then it goes on to give information about the clans growth and its now decrease in membership now only having 5000-8000 members. Then it states the KKK has been causing havoc for the Jewish and African American population and has set back America's effort to promote racial and religious tolerance.

3. The way this article connects to Night is like the Nazis the KKK feel that there is only one perfect race that should rule over all. Because of that they end up treating all other races unfairly. In Night the Nazis treated the Jews as if they were not human just like the KKK does to all other races besides Caucasians and all other religions beside Christianity. Anyone who did not fit their qualifications would either killed or treated like dirt any time they were around these groups.

2)This article is a about Isis killing a Jordanian pilot. The people of Jordan fought back by killing 2 terrorist prisoners. Neither Iraq or the Jordanians know what is going to happen next. Jordan is trying to stop the terrorists from doing anymore ham. Isis still has an American women and a British journalists that are being held captive.
3) This article relates to night because the Germans were taking control of the Jews and punishing them. Isis is holding the 2 people from the USA captive and is targeting the US because they killed their leader Osama Bin Laden. But in the beginning they were targeting the US for no reason, but now that they are trying to harm us we will try to harm them.

The current event I researched (http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-0118-makdisi-je-suis-charlie-makes-things-worse-20150118-story.html) mainly focuses on the reaction of the crowd when 12 journalists at local newspaper headquarters "Charlie Hebdo" in Paris. the now popular "Je suis Charlie" campaign is made to show support and freedom of expression and freedom of speech. Though it is a rather simple expression, "Je suis Charlie" has caused much debate in France, separating the French and Western civilization from the "intolerant" Muslim East civilizations. Many derogatory posters and campaigns have been made bashing Muslims and the Middle East.

Similarly, these derogatory cartoons and propganda in France today is similar to Germany and what the Nazi soldiers did in ww2, and in the book Night by Elie Wiesel. Many Jews inside of the concentration camps voiced their opinions secretly, but would die if they spoke openly to the soldiers. In addition, countless acts of unjustified violence and murder towards the Jews occurred in the camps by the Nazi SS soldiers, just like the murders against the French journalists.
Like France today and the "Je suis Charlie" campaign, there is a huge difference between the "us" and "them", just as in the Holocaust. People refer to all Muslims as "them" and the outcasts, because of the terrorist attacks against the "us" or the right and tolerant Westerners. The Jews, during the period of WW2 were seen as the intolerant and invaluable people, where the German soldiers were seen as the mighty, superior type. In both cases, the two races argue and cannot/did not see each other as humans, but as inferior types of people.

2) This article describes how Islamic State group militants invaded and destroyed about 2,000 books from the Central Library in Mosul. These extremists wanted to exterminate anything that didn't promote their own violent perspective on the Islamic religion. After raiding the Central Library, the militants moved on to the library at the University of Mosul and burned hundreds of books based on science and culture in front of the students. A history professor at this university gave his report of what happened anonymously because he feared this militant group. The extremists came during the night with trucks to carry out materials that date back to 5000 BC. They wanted to "change the face of this city... by erasing its iconic buildings and history".
3)The Islamic State group militants act similarly to the way the Nazis acted in "Night", in a sense that they both wanted to eliminate something that wasn't pure and didn't support what they believed in. The Nazis thought that by murdering millions of Jews, they were cleansing the world, but in reality, they were just destroying innocent people and their ideas. By destroying books and ancient artifacts, the militants were destroying people's ideas as well. Not only that, but students had to witness this destruction, just as the children in concentration camps had to witness injustice and traumatic events. Elie himself through his memoir talked about the horrible things he has experienced as a young boy and revealed how he had lost his innocence in the midst of his time as a prisoner. The students today and these children from the past both have seen right before their eyes something they value just burn away and leave the world. Not only that, but the history professor wanted to hide his identity when talking to reporters, in fear of what the militant group might do to him if they found out that he told the truth about what happened and expressed the harshness of the event. The prisoners in "Night" were put in many situations where they were afraid of the Nazis and their punishment if they stood up to them, causing them to never interfere with beatings or other abuse to innocent Jews. In both instances, fear controlled them and their behaviors.

2. This article discusses the terrorist group Boko Haram and how they are furthering their movement against Western education in an effort to reinforce Muslim culture. They are doing this by attacking and bombing all those who oppose or discriminate against the group. They have attacked several schools that promoted secular education. They continue to take all the steps necessary to rid Muslims of any Western influences.
3. The connection between "Night" and Boko Haram's actions is this: A large group of people with a strong belief that what they're doing is for the best, although it leads to many deaths, is organizing ways in which they can further their cause. In "Night" the Nazis thought that purifying the German race of all Jews was the right thing to do, even though it meant murdering millions of innocent people. Boko Haram is attempting to purify the Muslim race of all Western influences, even though their tactics are also resulting in many unnecessary and innocent deaths.

Summary: On Tuesday, February 10th, 2015, Isis hostage, Kayla Mueller was announced dead by her family. The report is to say that there is no specific evidence that relates to how they received the information that would give them to knowledge to announce the death of Kayla Mueller. Reporters say that the White House released specifics quotes of what Kayla was said to say and how great of a person she was towards the world, but again no specific evidence of how they obtained the knowledge of Muller's death. CNN is said to say that the White House may still be searching fro further evidence before they release it to the public.

Connection: I feel as if this report connects to the incident where Elie and his father were separated from his mother and sister. In the article it is said that the girl had been separated from her family, which also happens to Elie in Night, but much so like in the book, once Elie and his father are separated from his mom and sister, they have no track or sense whatsoever of what was going to happen to them. Now I know it doesn't textually say that Elie's mother and sister died, but that is also the case in this report also. Overall, these two events, whether real life or novelistic, are very similar in the sense of coming to conclusions without solid facts.

Summary: This article is about the president of Uganda and how he is against gay rights and that he will sign a bill imposing punishments to anyone that that completes any homosexual acts. The bill is going to criminalize anyone who promotes homosexual relations. A person's first offence causes them to serve 14 years in prison and following offences can lead to a life in prison. Uganda isn't the only country in Africa in which being homosexual is illegal, actually 38 out of the 54 countries in Africa outlaw homosexuality.. President Museveni said "The normal person was created to be attracted to the opposite sex in order to procreate and perpetuate the human race", which shows he is completely against homosexuals. Many Ugandan gay rights activists will riot against this and Museveni knows this but wants to continue with it even though it will only increase violence. The New York based Center for Constitutional Rights says that the law puts Ugandans in danger and they could prevent the law from being implemented if Museveni tries to sign it.

Connection: I feel this article connects to the book "Night" because the German officials and soldiers thought about the Jews like Elie and his family in a similar way because Germans didn't respect the Jews and hated them just like how Musevini didn't respect homosexuals and hated them. This is shown in "Night" when Elie's father goes up to the gypsy and asks where the bathroom is and then the gypsy slaps him because he didn't believe a Jew should have the right to talk to him. This is how both the article and the book "Night" have similar views.

Similar to how the Germans took the rights of the Jewish population, Israelis strip the rights of the Palestinian Population. Not only for religious differences. Also seemingly relatable to Nationalistic,Fascism coated by a Democratic Capitalistic illusion that they are doing global good. Similar to how the Jews raised arms for their freedom. Palestinians pick up arms and protect themselves from aggression (just like Hitler in Nazi Germany. Israel is using aggression). In the end both are relatable because both show inhumane treatment due to different beliefs.

2). One night not too long ago, a father was driving around town drunk with three children and because of his intoxication, he had crashed into a light pole. The crash had wrecked his car and his step-son had been injured with trauma to the head and lungs which caused have to die the next day. This is not the first time something like this had happened, the man had been in two more accidents in 2004 and 2009 in which he was well over the alcohol limit.
3). In Night, the German officers have the power to beat and command the Jews. This is like the drunk driver because most drunk people believe that they can do things even in this mental state, the drunk driver thinks they have the power to do his/her task. The expression "drunk with power" is what made me choose this article to compare. The German soldiers were "drunk with power" thanks to their leader and all the things they could now get away with, like drunk drivers they think they can do anything. Allowing these people to have such power over others made them feel like they had control, they had all the power, that is how someone who is drunk feels like they have overcome what they have consumed and they still have complete control over their body when in reality they don't. Its because of them that others are put in danger, people that don't deserve to be harmed are now threatened and its because of these "drunks" that so many people have suffered because of their actions.

2) This article discusses how many school children (mostly girls) in areas including Pakistan and Nigeria are being given abuducted, and often killed just because of their educational experiences. Though the attacks were directed towards students with a high education, the main target was towards student and teachers who support gender equality within education.

3) This article connects to "Night" by a certain group of people being singled out and killed. In "Night", Elie and his family are deported from their villages, which is constructed of a Jewish community, into separate concentration camps, and throughout his terrible journey, Elie whitnesses all of these Jews (including himself) he singled out and killed because of their religious belieifs. Where as in this article, the students and teachers are being singled out, kiddnapped, and killed just for believing in gender equality.

Summary: The article I chose centers mainly around the excessive use of force that police offers use against African Americans and the responses it creates. The death of Michael Brown seemed to reawaken a deep racial conflict that remained dormant as the world became more civilized. It is disputed if the officer who killed Brown did it out of racism or self defense.
Connection: In Night, Elie and his fellow Jewish people were persecuted because of their religious beliefs. The Nazis believed they were an "inferior race" and had to be exterminated. In the article, some people believed that Brown was murdered because of his race. These two are connected because in both cases, people were supposedly killed because of their race or ethnicity.

2) The article I chose to write about that I believe connects very well to the situations that occurred in Night. My article is about The Armenian Genocide. The Armenian Genocide was a systematic extermination of a targeted group of people solely because of their origin and religion, taking place in Turkey/Ottoman Empire in 1915. The driving reason behind the genocide was that Armenians were viewed as "infidels" and that because they were faithful to their religion of Christianity, many Turkish Muslims believed that their loyalty would be placed with other Christian countries. So as a result, the Turkish government decided that they must be exterminated to cleanse their country and people as a whole. The system of killing included, deportation to unknown places where they could not survive, starvation, lethal shooting, disease, brutality, and countless other horrors.
3) This connects to Night because,in the memoir it explained how Elie, and and countless other Jews were persecuted, and exterminated because of their religious beliefs. These two subjects connect because, they both had a government targeting and eliminating a specific group of people because they were viewed as infidels and lesser beings. Both of their governments had many supporters/soldiers that were willing to do their dirty work. In the Ottoman Empire's case they were "The Turkish Youth" and in Germany's they were "Nazis". Both of these mass murders, were driven by the main factor of prejudice and hate towards people that differ from the norm.

This pilot was Moath al-Kasasbeh, he was 27 years old. He was in an aircraft when engine failure happened and was forced to jump out... right into the hands of ISIS. He was torchured for days after days until the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made a decision to kill him so others won't make the mistake into trying to bomb ISIS. When they killed him they covered him in petroleum and made straight line out of the cage he was in to start the fire. They started the fire and the fir spread rapidly. The fire continued to come at Moath, people say he was so done from being torchured that he threw himself towards the fire to end his life faster. Then when he was burned alive, they covered him in rocks to hide evidence that something happened there.
This connects to the book Night because, the non survivors that died in selection, were shot then put into a crematorium which is an oven and where burned just like Moath. Then when the hole that was dug up was filled they buried it with dirt and rocks just like Moath the great pilot that died due to a truly great cause, trying to kill off all the terrorists in ISIS

My article is called "ISIS & Guantanamo Bay: Chain of Command Casts Spotlight on Re-engagement". It talks about the late ISIS commander including his heir and how they both were former Guantanamo Bay detainees. I noticed how NBC talks very little on Rauf's death. It reminds me of Ellie's father and his death by cremation and how the book talks very little on it.
