We started the WWI unit today. All students received the unit overview (can be found on the WWI page of this site) and we read The Gentlemen of the Jungle. There is an open response about this short story that is due tomorrow.

Actively read "Shooting an Elephant" and make connections to specific prior knowledge about Imperialism, complete this vocab in context document and respond to the following open response prompt.
Open Response: In "Shooting an Elephant. Orwell writes, "One day something happened which in a roundabout way was enlightening. It was a tiny incident in itself, but it gave me a better glimpse than I had had before of the real nature of imperialism" (Paragraph 3) Use evidence from both history and the story to prove this quote by explaining how the incident with the elephant reveals the nature of imperialism. Continue to read TFA according to the schedule.
