  • Students worked with partners to complete the Twitter Assignment. Students must read Act II, Scene II (the famous balcony scene) and translate the conversation between Romeo and Juliet into a modern-day Twitter or text message conversation.

  • Students watched the movie version of Romeo and Juliet starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. Students filled out this graphic organizer while watching the movie.

C Block:
  • Students wrote journal responses to the question: Knowing what you know now about how Romeo and Juliet met, is their relationship based on lust or love? Why?
  • Students discussed how the director modernized Shakespeare's play in his movie.

Homework Assignment: 
Students must write a story of any topic using all nine of this week's vocab words. Due Friday.

  • Students spent the first half of class presenting and discussing current events with Mr. Borghi. 
  • Students also received Vocab List 11 which is due Tuesday.
C Block:
  • Students spent the period in the computer lab completing sentence fill-ins for a tone open response. The sentence fill-ins and tone open response document is located in the students' Google folders for Humanities. Students should finish the sentence fill-ins (the first page of the document) over the weekend in preparation to write the open response in class on Monday.

  • Students reviewed the five elements of tone: Language, Images, Details, Diction, and Syntax (LIDDS).
  • Students are working in groups to complete a tone analysis graphic organizer.
  • Students are working together to identify and analyze the tone of the Prince's speech to the Montagues and the Capulets.

Today we reviewed figurative language by answering multiple choice questions. We also began reading Act I Scene I of Romeo and Juliet up until the Prince's entrance into the play. We began a cloze reading of the Prince's speech to the Montagues and Capulets.
